Report: Wii U Outsold Xbox One Last Week

The alleged sales numbers for the week of December 21 have been revealed by VGChartz, and, according to the data, the Wii U outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One console globally last week.

As you can see in the chart below, the Wii U sold 319,860 units world-wide last week while the Xbox One sold only 307,366. Of course, neither systems come close to the numbers of the 3DS which sold 1,078,568 units last week to remain the top selling console in the World.

The news of the Wii U outselling the Xbox One is surprising due to the fact that Microsoft’s console is the newer of the two which has more “hype” at this time of the year. The fact that the Wii U sales are on the upswing can only be good news for a console, and a company, with high hopes for 2014.

I see absolutely nothing wrong here. Xbox is bad, Wii U is meh.

Katsumi Well an upswing was kind of expected with the emergence of the next generation consoles. Many people where just waiting it out to see if they where anything special and gave themselves time to suss them out a little before making a decision. I do believe that the Wii U is the most innovative console of this generation, the only one that feels well.. different from its predecessor.


I feel as if the wii u is the most user friendly, and I agree with you on the fact that people were waiting to check out the other consoles.

The only system not sold in Japan is the One, yet they make it seem like it's such a big deal the Wii U outsold it. If it was sold in Japan I'm sure it'd be up there in the PS3s spot, if not the 360s.


The PS4 isn't being sold in Japan yet either. But yes, there is a decent chance that if the One were to be sold in Japan it would've outsold the Wii U. I would think that it would still be very close between the two at least since they tend to favor Nintendo and PlayStation over there from what I can tell, (given how they're both Japanese based companies and all as well).

People are not buying next gen right now is because new consoles seem to have problems at launch and want to wait till almost all the problems are fixed.Im waiting till a year or two before i buy the xbox one or the ps4.
