Microsoft considering interactive game shows for Xbox One

4.7
Microsoft is considering bringing new interactive gameshow experiences to its Xbox One, several years after the release of the popular live trivia game 1 vs 100.

Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios, was asked on Twitter whether the platform holder had any intention to publish a game similar to 1 vs 100 on Xbox Live again.

"I think we will," Spencer replied.

He added: "[Microsoft entertainment exec] Nancy Tellem and I were discussing gameshows on XBL. 1v100 was a success for us. Prob not 1v100 exactly."

1 vs 100 was a regularly scheduled gameshow on Xbox Live that gave players from around the world the opportunity to be contestants. Players could be chosen as "The One", "The Mob" or "The Crowd", and compete against thousands of others, with prizes such as Microsoft Points and XBLA games up for grabs. The show lasted two full seasons.

The game was also frequently hosted by Chris Cashman or James McCourt.

Microsoft announced 1 vs 100 was to be cancelled in July 2010, following its second season. According to Microsoft, more than 114,000 people played the game simultaneously, which set a Guinness World Record for the most contestants in a game show.

Microsoft Studios' former general manager, Dave McCarthy, said he was pleased with what the 1 vs 100 game had accomplished and will be using what they learned from the project in the future.

"When we started on this journey, we knew we were creating an entirely new genre of entertainment that would be a continually evolving concept," said McCarthy.

"We're very proud of the '1 vs 100' team and their accomplishments, and are excited to apply what we've learned to future programming."

1 vs 100 was one of the most fun games to play whenever you have a group of friends to play it with.

Please bring it back. I loved the way it worked back when it was on Xbox 360. All my friends played and we had tons of fun with it. Just think of it; You could participate in it while playing your game via snapping it to your screen, controlling it with kinect or controller. Needless to say I am very excited about this. It'd be even cooler if they could introduce multiple "game shows" that could air not only simultaneously but also sequentially after one another to attract tons of people toward it. I miss those days of 1 vs 100...
