Titanfall has been tough to market due to lack of single-player

4.5
Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment, has had a rough time of accurately marketing the shooter, given its lack of single-player mode. That’s the claim of producer Drew McCoy, who recently shed some new light on the matter.

It follows uproar around Titanfall’s 12 player cap, something we felt was nothing to worry about.

Now, in a post on NeoGAF, McCoy wrote, “Its actually been really tough trying to accurately market Titanfall. If you look at what we’ve done, its a lot different than what most FPS games do. Without a bunch of highly scripted SP moments to recam from different angles, the usual ‘movie like’ trailer is just about right out.

“Instead, we’ve decided to show unedited gameplay segments that last 3-5 minutes (so far – more footage coming, of course!) to show the “flow” of the game. Starting as a Pilot, taking on AI and other player Pilots, wall running around a Titan, earning your Titan, climbing in, battling other Titans while stomping on humans, ejecting, etc. There’s a huge amount of gameplay mechanics available at any one time, and encompassing them in a few minutes is actually quite hard to do.

“Its also why we took an extremely early pre-alpha build of the game to events like Gamescom, PAX, etc. to let normal dudes hands-on time with the game. There’s no amount of polished marketing that can replace playing the actual game.”

On the whole player count thing, McCoy replied to one forum member, “What about high player counts makes that more fun, though? I honestly want to know, because this kind of stuff is super important and we obsess over it every day.”

Latias The sad thing is since EA is hosting the game the servers will inevitably crash. Look what happened with BF4, it was unplayable. Titanfall has no single player, so if EA's servers crash again the game will be literally unplayable.

Yeah, that will definitely bring the reputation of the game down and make it less favored

FriskyPanda 12 players and apparently like no single player? god video games are getting worse and worse every single launch. this game will suck and be dead within 2 months after release. i was right about every single cod after mw2 and bo1. gf

It will still be good. Its a popular game and people will still play it

VPN Well it doesn't matter about single player, this only affects people with no internet.

A lot of people play single player games that have internet. Not everything is about the multiplayer.

I would have liked a single player seen as its a new game

but a game like COD its to repetitive, I stopped playing them when it got to MW3 because it was boring

K16 I think single player may be fun, but MP will always be the selling point.

Honestly the only thing I havent gotten totally clear is Titanfalls lore. Which I feel like they couldve structured up with a SP campaign, but honestly the commercial style videos theyve put out explaining the different Titan bots have already given a little bit of framework lore.

yah they could do something like that. like all of a sudden the company gets attacked by some sort of extra terrestrial.... IDK
