Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One was the best selling console in December in the U.S. The company revealed that, according to figures from the NPD Group, the Xbox One sold 908,000 units in the U.S. during the last month of 2013. Microsoft announced in early January that it sold over 3 million units worldwide by the end of 2013. Microsoft had previously said that the Xbox One sold 909,132 units in November in the U.S., which means that the console sold 1,817,132 units just in the U.S. in the last few weeks of the year.

Microsoft's blog added that the eight year old Xbox 360 managed to sell 643,000 units in December, which put it at the number three spot on NPD's sales list. The combined sales of both consoles claimed 46 percent of the U.S. console hardware market in December. The amount of money spent on Xbox hardware, software and accessories reached $1.39 billion in December in the U.S.

According to Gamesindustry International, overall retail game sales in the U.S. went up two percent to $3.28 billion. Call of Duty Ghosts and Battlefield 4 were the number one and two best selling games in December, according to NPD. For 2013 as a whole, retail game sales (hardware, software and accessories) were down two percent to $12.97 billion in the U.S. and that Grand Theft Auto V was the best selling game of the year.

-Mark I own a Xbox One and I'm surprised that it sold more consoles in the US than the PS4. I would of expected the PS4 to sell more consoles.

You do realise that the system costs around $490 to make... and they are making money from games...

I don't know... I think MS would charge more than a ten dollar profit

IlBubblezlI I don't know how that's possible! The Xbox One seems so overpriced.

You aren't out of stock "due to demand" if you expand from 32 to 53 territories in that time frame. That is a planned shortage. Sony could have met demand in their initial territories and CHOSE not to.

Both have sold really well and both should have a great future, but anyone who buys what Sony is shoveling is an idiot.

NikolaiLoverG935 People complain about the $500 Xbone, but not about the $600 PS3?...

Welcome to the present. This discussion ended somewhere between E3 and Console releases. Glad you're trying to catch up to the present.
