New Alienware Steam Machines will be released annually
"Lifecycle wise, consoles update every five, six, seven years, we will be updating our Steam Machines every year," Alienware's GM Frank Azor told TrustedReviews.
He went on to explain that annual updates will be necessary due to its Steam Machine's complete lack of upgradeability.
"There will be no customisation options, you can't really update it," he said of the Alienware Steam Machine, which was revealed alongside 12 others at a recent Steam Machine event.
"The platform will continue to evolve as the games become more resource intensive," added Azor.
Alienware typically offers a number of out-the-box options for its gaming PCs, and its slimline Steam Machine will be no different.
"There will be some configuration options when you purchase it, maybe you can get a faster CPU, maybe some more memory something like that," said Azor.
He went on to suggest that those interested in making internal upgrades themselves would be better off with a regular PC, onto which you can install SteamOS for free for Steam Machine functionality.
"If you actually want to customise your Alienware Steam Machine, maybe change your graphics card out or put in a new CPU, you would be better off with the standard Alienware X51," he said.
Alienware's first Steam Machine is expected to launch in September.

It seems like these days, everybody you speak to builds their own PC because it's a lot cheaper... Next time I get a PC I'll probably get it bit, even though I've not a clue about PC's really! (Building aspect)

GT-R I honestly don't think this will do well. You'd be better off building a pc and just installing the steam os.
This.
The steam consoles will probably cost a lot of money and won't be worth it.

IntTanyaKatsumiZoidberg Alienware is like the apple of the PC world. Sure it's flashy and neat, but horribly overpriced.
Pretty much. The main reason i don't buy Alienware is because they don't offer good value for money
I couldnt agree more,
they arent even good systems,
for value anyway!
build yourself a pc its amazing and you'll have pride.
Pretty much this. Building your PC isn't only much cheaper but you gain a sense of accomplishment when you actually do it

Wouldn't it be easier to get the Razer Project Christine?
Atleast this way you can just upgrade the certain components?

Annual releases are great as that means the hardware will be up to date. Doesn't that also mean the prices will be really high, or will the prices of older machines go down quick?
