XboxIE brings HTML5 games to Xbox One

4.6
The Xbox One doesn't have a lot of games in its official library yet (it launched just two months ago, after all) but this week it was revealed that a third party website has been launched which allows owners of Microsoft's console access to many more games.

The site is called Xboxie and while it was not made by Microsoft, it seems to have the unofficial stamp of approval from Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, the director of Xbox Live programming.

Next time you turn on your Xbox One, Say "Xbox Go To Internet Explorer" and open http://t.co/pASGfHu68p - You are welcome
— Larry Hryb (@majornelson) January 23, 2014

The site uses the Xbox One's version of Internet Explorer to offer a number of free HTML5-based games that can be played with the console's controller. While technically any HTML5 web game could be played on the Xbox One, nearly all of them are optimzed for a keyboard and mouse setup. The site's creators state, "So we at Xboxie search and test each game to make sure it runs smooth and plays well on a controller. So to sum up, if it's on Xboxie then you can play it on your Xbox One."

The collection of games, as you might expect, is mostly of casual titles but there are a few familiar names such as Pac Man, Cut The Rope and Bejeweled. The Xboxie team has pledged to reach out to other game developers so that more web-based games can support the Xbox One via IE.

Sweet that means that there is some way people can play the new Runescape HTML5 on xbox one. Someone should look into that.

MeIIow When are Xbox going to release some new Arcade games..

The Xbox One isn't really supporting 3rd party games like the 360 did so I don't think a lot of arcade games are going to come out on the One like they did on the 360.

K16 Nice now only if they can allow for 3rd party browsers. Chrome on XBOne

Nah, IE on X1 is far superior.

Even the latest IE's on W8.1 and W7 are equally as good as chrome.

Chrome > FF > IE. That's how it is. I use 8.1 and Chrome is still better.

daRealRush That is just INSANE! How could someone actually do that?! They would have to be like a genius!

Not really. I'm sure it involves some java in there some where. I'm learning both at my school, and it's just a basic function that when a key is recognized something happenes(I.E A - jump.) Now, it's geuies for that website to do it. It increases their traffic flow. If they have adds, their about to get some $$ MONEY $$ Haha.
