Microsoft will charge you $24.99 to use your own headset with Xbox One

Microsoft will charge you $24.99/£19.99 for the option to use your own chat headset with the Xbox One, thanks to the console's proprietary headset port and the new stereo headset adapter.

The adapter has its own volume controls and will allow users to adjust the levels of both chat and game audio, but the adapter does not allow for output of game audio to any headsets themselves--your favourite Astro/Turtle Beach/Tritton/etc headset will still need to be plugged into the Xbox One, TV, or receiver to get game audio. Both 3.5mm and 2.5mm jacks are supported.


The headset adapter will be available to purchase worldwide in March...

"Plug your compatible headset into the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter to chat with your fellow players, and enjoy the convenient volume controls right on the adapter," said Microsoft spokesperson Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb on his blog.

Additionally, Microsoft will also release its own stereo headset in March that comes with an adapter included. This will retail for $79.99/£59.99

TrueHardcoreGamer LOL xbox fanboys will never get that SONY is better cuz they not money greedy scrubs like Microsoft. hahaha. i can already use any mic that uses headphone jack on my PS4. i been using my SKULL CANDY headset with mic jack i bought for it & its kick *** like turtle beach headset. the PS4 even has a setting where u can hear ONLY ppl talk in headset OR set it where u can hear ALL sound in the headset so u can turn any headset into turtle beaches =) beat that Microsoft O thats right u cant u rather charge ur own fans MORE money use there own headsets hahahahahaha

Sony customers are so ignorant. PS4 is making a headset that's 70.00+ bucks. All we have to pay is 25.00. It's not even a bad of a deal. I love it when PS players call people who play xbox fanboys. It's so cute, damn skids.

I Feel like people are taking this out of context, It's pretty much basing this as the price it would cost for an adapter, Sony would do exactly the same if they were to release an adapter, Nothing wrong with this, Not going to wonder into a store grab an adapter and walk out.

Microsoft aren't stealing money, they are simply selling accessories for the xbox one.
