Facebook started the ill fated @facebook.com email service way back in 2010, it gave users the openness of chatting and sending emails via Facebook Messages. The service never really gained true momentum even while being available to over one billion active users, this stunning failure is not slated for discontinuation. The email service lacked many key features found in other web based email services toted for years; the service was never taken seriously by many.

The Facebook email service is set it be phased out in early March with users being informed formally on-site first.
It wasn't something you signed up for every user who signed up until this point has been given a email address related to Facebook but most people don't even know about it or even how to use it. It was your first name and whatever number your first name was in line, so if your name was Bob and you were the 200th Bob to sign up, your Facebook email would be [email protected]
