Gogo reveals app to allow in-flight calls and texts

4.6
Those of us who travel on a regular basis knows the stress from being unable to take or make calls for the duration of your trip at 35,5000 feet. It is true that a few airlines have taken the initiative to provide in-flight internet services, none have actually gave fliers the ability to use the more traditional forms of cellular communication while flying. The in-flight internet company "Gogo" has a remedy for this conundrum in the form of a app that reportedly allows users to both text and make calls from their mobile devices.

At SXSW 2014 they took a few reporters on a private jet flight to demonstrate the application's functionality, sad to say that the reviews weren't stellar. One reporter was quoted commenting that the quality was "garbled" throughout usage, the shining review from their test flight was the lukewarm comment "surprisingly decent". It is still too early to tell how or even if this technology will be phased into airliners but the idea is certainly refreshing.

This may be a big thing. I could do without a phone on a plane though.

There's a reason why you can't call or text when you're in an airplane. Putting peoples lives at risk is not worth it. No wonder it didn't get stellar reviews.

Oasis I think you'd put your phone into flight mode as usual and use the app to make over the internet voice calls.

I'm gonna disagree and say it's a bad idea, I like it to be quite on a plane, if everyone was on the phone or even one person close by, I think I'd cut a hole in the plane with a can opener and push then out.
I really agree, I personally don't think I could stand an 8 hour flight with someone next to me talking on their phone the whole time. Plus planes are loud for the most part inside, I mean you can't even hear like your computer without headphones and much less understand with out some $200 noise canceling headphones.

I honestly never was on an airplane, but I couldn't agree anymore I think it will be annoying if everyone was talking on their phones.

Aftercast I'm traveling in about 3 days, so it will be interesting to see if anybody mentions it. I go insane without my phone.

I suppose that it is out? I don't see anything that says it will be released someday or anything of that such. If you get to use it when you travel tell us how it works, is it good, is it bad, etc.

Craigyy Okay not this is weird. I thought all mobile phone signals can interrupt things. But I love the sound of this.
