Xbox One digital features like game loaning may return
Gamespot asked Spencer about features like family sharing and game loaning, which were axed when gamers reacted badly to the concept of an always-online, DRM-driven console platform. The executive’s response gives some hope for those features making a comeback, despite Microsoft’ startling u-turn.
“We are now fully heads down on thinking about and building out the future of our digital marketplace to enable what people would expect, and hopefully some things that will delight them beyond their expectations,” Spencer said.
“I know when I say this I always get beat up, but I think some of what we were trying to say last summer was right.”
Although Microsoft is now committed to retail and offline gaming, Spancer said the company believes in “a digital future” for the Xbox One.
“We understand what games you own and who you are and how you move around and who you might want to loan rights to your games or gift your games to,” Spencer said.
“We totally believe in that future. And any other marketplace you play in, these kind of mechanisms are out there.”

maascourt13daRealRushjustahackerAry This is the reason why I have not purchased either system yet. I'm waiting until Microsoft lowers prices and decides what they are doing with DMR. I'm also waiting on Sony to clear up some of there next generation titles as well as the hardware direction they are going to be jumping onto.
As of right now Xbox isn't really on my list until they change several things.
I wouldn't hold my breath.
Microsoft makes fairly little money off of each console sold, I think it's under 30$ per.
As long as Kinect remains bundled, you are unlikely to see a large price drop for a long, long time.
Same with Sony, if you have researched it a bit. Sony makes even less of that off of each console. It costs 382$ to produce a PS4. So if they sold a PS4, they would make less than 20$ off of it.
Microsoft is already selling it at 450$ in micsrosoft stores.
I recall both companies sell the consoles at a loss and make there money through peripherals and sales of games.

TDK So none of you find this strange? We understand what games you own and who you are and how you move around and who you might want to loan rights to your games or gift your games to, Spencer said.
Correct me if I am wrong but this is what MOST of you guys objected to when they first announced the DRM driven console. It removes all forms of marketing and they will just recommend and sell titles to you your friends and your family based on who you talk to and how you move....... so basically they will in the end control what you play.
No. Where did you manage to get that from? It doesn't remove all forma of marketing at all. People will still want to own all of the new games. It's the feeling of possesion that has stopped digital games moving forward. You can see on PC it works.
It's the same on Consoles. What you download to your console IS your because you have rightfully purchased that content. They can't take it from you without legal reason. Even with DRM Enabled, the game is still playable as it is on your consoles HDD, Regardless of connectivity.
Notice how everyone wanted DRM back at E3 when it was announced that was going to be removed? Steam have made it work and they don't push games in front of you. Yes maybe offers but who doesn't?
I can guarantee this will work.

XkojakXSkama Honestly what they said last summer WAS right. The Xbox One would of been amazing with DRM only. We could probably pay less for games as well. Imagine getting a new released Call of Duty for $30. The reason games are so much is that after the initial purchase the developers don't get anything. Gamestop will resell that game 50 times and make some money off each sale. They just explained it poorly which resulted in the backlash. Maybe one day everything they announced will return. They probably have a kill switch to revert everything in every console if they are ready to go back.
although i do agree i do a lot of renting before i buy
Who says they cant do game trials digitally?

Right but Sony has no need to drop price right now. He is clearly talking about the XB1 because it's lagging behind. He's simply stating they cant afford to price match Sony at this time.

it shouldnt be up for discussion should have had game sharing from the beginning, once i pay that 60$ i own all rights to that copy and may do what i want with it even if that means allowing my friend to borrow it.
