Xbox One performance catching up to PS4, Oddworld creator says

Oddworld Inhabitants co-founder Lorne Lanning believes the performance gap between Xbox One and PS4 will be negligible within a few years.


Lanning told Xbox Achievements that he often heard developers complaining that it took "twice as long" to get assets onto Xbox One as PS4 in the early days of new-gen development.

However, Microsoft has worked quickly to improve its development tools.

"We're hearing and seeing that that curve is getting closer," Lanning said. "I think they've been improving the toolset really fast, improving the development environment and shaving that curve down... I think they're getting comparable."

"You know, if you want to run at 1080p, Battlefield, I'm not exactly sure how that's going to tax the system at that higher end, but I'm sure in couple of years it won't be a problem. We're early."

Oddworld Inhabitants is working on Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty for PlayStation 4. If the game is accepted into the ID@Xbox self-publishing program, Lanning doesn't expect many graphical differences between the two versions.

"I have to say, the PlayStation 4 has been pretty amazing and that's where we've been spending a lot of our time," he continued. "But I don't see a huge gap like there used to be. There used to be a significant gap."

Potion IMO the xbox one has already passed the ps4 in performance, we are abrely using any resources and are exactly the same as the ps4.


The PS4 has more performance capability than the Xbox One just by looking at the core specs. I think we will see a minimal difference between the consoles in terms of performance as time goes on.

Where are your facts in this? I am not trying to pick sides or anything but everysingle article I read is that the ps4's hardware is better. Will that make much of a difference probable not to much maybe a little but you can't just come out and saying stuff like that without any facts.

Is there really a huge difference between consoles? I've played on both and I don't see a difference. All my PS4 friends thinks forza looks better than any PS4 game

in sales yes. in terms of quality no.


It's all opinions really. When it comes to consoles, all that really matters is the games that are released on those consoles. At the end of the day whatever console has more teraflops doesn't really mean much
