CoD: Advanced Warfare last-gen versions not developed by Sledgehammer

4.2
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfighter will be Sledgehammer Games' debut as lead developer, but the studio is not handling development of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

While the current-gen PS4, Xbox One and PC versions are being handled in-house at Sledgehammer, the lower-end last-gen versions have been handed to another yet-to-be-confirmed developer.

The news was revealed in the latest issue of Game Informer (via Gamespot), which features a lengthy preview on the newly-announced Call of Duty.

The game is also confirmed to be running on a new engine, although no further details were offered. Activision has previously stressed that this is the first CoD title developed specifically for next-gen hardware, so we expect a new engine will have been built to take full advantage of the new architecture and processing power of the new Sony and Microsoft consoles.

Elsewhere where in the feature, GI confirmed new game details including the name of the game's sole protagonist; Private Mitchell.

Voiced by Troy Baker, who also voiced Joel in The Last of Us and The Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins, Mitchell is a Marine and sqaudmate of Will Irons. Will is the son of Atlas Corporation CEO Jonathan Irons (Kevin Spacey) - previously confirmed as the game's lead antagonist.

According to the report, Mitchell is offered - and accepts- a position within Altus, where he is fitted with a body-enhancing 'EXO Suit' - the exoskeleton featured prominently in the game's earliest screenshots and trailer.

The EXO suit can be upgraded as the game progresses, by spending points earned in completed missions.

Multiplayer modes go entirely under wraps, although the developer was willing to confirm that competitive multiplayer will be joined by a co-op mode, in-keeping with CoD tradition.

It also confirmed that the game's soundtrack will be helmed by Metal Gear Solid composer Harry Gregson-Williams.

Advanced Warfare was officially announced last week Friday following a succession of major leaks, which forced Activision into an early unveiling (previously scheduled for Sunday, May 4).

The game, set in the year 2054, stars Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey as the main antagonist Jonathan Irons.

Splashy_Fish It is for last gen consoles also. At the end of the Advance Warfare trailer it shows Xbox One and Xbox 360. They wouldn't have showed Xbox 360 if it wasn't going to be for it. The game won't even get a lot of sales if it's for Xbox One and PS4.

Its not that there not gonna make it but its the same game just different company is making it

They did the same with Titanfall, not much changed really

AR15 This is dumb. Why wouldn't they just back port it to 360 and PS3? Why make an exact remake of the game by another company?

Different generations require different development processes and they didn't have time to do the game all over for another gen so they pay someone else do it with them at the same and they save money out of it. Nothing wrong from it. The game is still going to be the same. If it bothers you that much just get a next-gen, you're going to have it sooner or later.
