Microsoft exec offers reasons why PS4 is outselling Xbox One

A Microsoft executive has given a number of potential reasons why the Xbox One is currently being outsold by the PlayStation 4.

Xbox chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi told Forbes that there are a number of possible explanations for the PS4 selling roughly three million more systems than the Xbox One to date.

One reason given was that the Xbox One isn't available in as many territories as the PS4. "It's hard to really assess the gap in sales," he explained.

"[Sony are] in many more markets right now than we are. They're in 40+ markets, we're in 13."

Another suggestion offered by Mehdi was that Xbox 360 owners may be happier with their consoles and not as keen to abandon it just yet.

"People have been more satisfied with the Xbox 360 than the PS3, so in that respect people have less of a need to upgrade in the short term due to regular updates for the Xbox 360," he surmised. "We could point to any number of things."

Mehdi did concede there were some other factors that could be addressed, however, adding: "That said, we've heard from a lot of our Xbox fans who say, 'Hey look, I want an Xbox One, but at $499, I probably have to wait a little while before I can afford to get one.'

"I do think we're going to get people now who move over, and then buy the Kinect later. So I do think the [price point] broadens the appeal and hopefully brings more people to Xbox One sooner."

These reasons are pretty legit, and do make sense. Most of my friends said they don't plan on switching to next-gen consoles until servers go out on the older consoles.

But all of those "excuses" make sense i still have my 360 and i dont think i need the upgrade for a while and now since the price has dropped im 99% sure that more people will start buying the xbox one. I understand why people updgraded from the ps3 to the ps4 so quick because they needed that upgrade. The ps3 had great exclusisves but PSN and the terrible console ports were trash.


Yeah, not really excuses. Considering he did mention that a lot of people thought it was too expensive. That is the main reason. If you bring up sole performance factors, I've played both consoles and there really isn't much to talk about. Sure the PS4 has slightly better graphics on games, but the Xbox One is still high up there. Both consoles offering so much graphic wise. (Again I've played both, I agree the PS4 is better in that aspect but still gotta love the One!

I think its funny how they didn't mention the tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of people that switched from 360 to PS4

Most of my friends is not getting it because the price is to high but they recently removed the kinect and it's $399.99 so maby sales will go up.

Just to point of there was this report that was taking down by Sony and the report said that when Xbox was first showed off and they mentioned the drm and saw how people reacted to it so Sony came out and never mentioned that they wanted to do the same thing but saw how people hated it.
That's all I need to say I hate don't fanboys. Btw I am not a fanboy myself.
