Xbox Live Gold unlocked on Xbox 360 this weekend

Xbox Live Gold services will be unlocked on Xbox 360 this weekend in the UK.

Microsoft says: "Try Xbox Live Gold membership at no additional cost on the Xbox 360 platform only from 12:00PM (GMT) on Friday 23rd May 2014 to 23:59 (GMT) on Sunday 25th May 2014."

Microsoft has made a number of significant announcements over the past few weeks, headlined by its decision to release an Xbox One without Kinect for the first time beginning in June.

From next month, the company will no longer gate entertainment apps behind an Xbox Live Gold subscription. It will offer a refund to current subscribers who no longer wish to use the service in light of the upcoming changes.

Games with Gold will also launch on Xbox One next month with Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault. June's Xbox 360 Games with Gold offering will include free Dark Souls, Charlie Murder and Super Street Fighter IV downloads. A single Gold membership will provide owners with access to the free games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Titled 'Game On', Microsoft's E3 2014 media briefing will begin on June 9 at 9:30am PT / 12:30am ET / 5:30pm BST.

Third_Eye It's Memorial Day weekend for the US but the UK gets a free Gold weekend...

What's it matter? It's not THAT big of a deal in all honesty.

If you don't have gold I guess it would matter some, but still it's just this weekend.

Could of been world wide, surely they would make more profit from that :/ I'm from the UK myself and I know there are millions of us on xbl...but I think the reason it's only UK is because there is less people living here than there are in most places.

Corncake I wonder if this means that in the future playing online multiplayer will no longer need gold for the Xbox 360? If so that would be pretty cool.

It's the exact opposite basically. People who don't pay for Gold get to try out everything and might then want to start paying for it.
