YouTube: PewDiePie earns over $4 million each year

If you're contemplating a career change, you may want to look into playing video games and shouting into a camera, as doing just that has made Felix Kjellberg a millionaire.

Better known by his phonetically troublesome online handle "PewDiePie," Kjellberg has turned online video game streaming into a massively lucrative venture. According to the Wall Street Journal, the PewDiePie brand now attracts more than $4 million each year in ad revenue, thanks to the 27 million subscribers who follow Kjellberg's YouTube channel, where the 24-year-old frequently uploads videos of himself playing (and swearing at) various games.

Kjellberg attributes his success not to dumb luck or having capitalized on the streaming games trend at the exact right moment, but to a more personal touch that comes through in his videos. "Unlike many professionally produced shows, I think I've established a much closer contact with my viewers, breaking the wall between the viewer and what's behind the screen," he told the Wall Street Journal. "What I and other YouTubers do is a very different thing, it's almost like hanging around and watching your pal play games."

I don't like Pewdiepie's content. I never have and I never will. However, I guarantee he works harder than most jobs. I bet he enjoys it, but that doesn't mean the works easy. He has 27 million subscribers, he's the face of gaming. Do you know how much hate he probably gets? I wouldn't be able to handle the death threats and such.


It would seem as if his job would be easy but all the amount of time you see him gaming he has to spend at least five times the amount of time editing. Also with 27 million subscribers, that means no breaks. No vacation. It is play game, be obnoxious, edit, edit, edit, edit, edit, upload, repeat. EVERYDAY.

I completely agree. I don't see why so many people watch his videos. In my opinion, there are a ton of people on Youtube that have better videos but they just aren't anywhere near as famous.

His estimated yearly earnings are- $2.3M - $18.9M he makes around $4M after the cuts that YouTube takes. So if you're in a 80/20 RevShare % contract on YouTube, you get 80% after YouTube takes it's own massive cut and after you're network takes it's own 20%.

Honestly, I would love to have a job where I'm able to sit back, play video games and make money like this. Even though some people disagree with it, a job is a job, and he's gotten somewhere with his job.
