Video: Super Mario Bros speed run world record broken

The world record for the fastest time to beat Super Mario Bros has been broken.

Speedrunner 'Blubbler' has beaten what was previously considered the fastest possible way to beat the game, which previously resulted in a world record of 4:58:09.

By using a recently discovered glitch and being able to pull it off during a speedrun however, Blubbler has been able to reduce that to a new record time of 4:57.69.

The glitch occurs at the end of World 8-2. By jumping on a Bullet Bill just as he hits the corner of the flagpole, Mario doesn't have to walk to the castle and the game accumulates the score instantly instead of waiting for him to get there.

He glitched it so would you honestly count it as officially breaking a record.
Also when was the last one set? (Date/Year)

Probably a lot of time! He probably made it so close so many times but had to reset all over!

You could have Mario touching the whole top of the plant and be safe, same with falling off of ledges, you can be on it until you are exactly 1 pixel on the edge, next pixel when you are 0 pixels on the ledge, you will fall. The hit boxes for the Piranha Plant weren't by it's whole mouth, but more near it's center stem and very bottom of it's mouth, so anything else, you could touch and be fine.

ShadowBoltDashie And I used to sit there, struggling on world 7, dying over and over, needing any power-up I could get and taking me up till I was 10 years old to beat the game....


I remember that!! I couldn't do that level for ages.

Thats So crazy! I could never bring myself to do a Speedrun. If you fail one bit you'll have to start again :P Pretty Neat though.

I love watching people do speed runs on twitch but I guess there is no limit to what kind of games you could do speed runs for :D
