Kinect 2.0 for Windows costs half as much as an Xbox One

4.5
According to the blurb, "the Kinect for Windows v2 sensor gives developers more of the precision, responsiveness, and intuitive capabilities they need to develop interactive voice- and gesture-based applications for the Windows desktop and Windows Store. The v2 sensor is intended for use with the Kinect for Windows software development kit (SDK) 2.0."

Alas, "Kinect for Windows v2 sensor does not ship with any software. It is intended for use with the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 (licensed separately) and will operate only with applications developed for Kinect for Windows v2. Developers can use the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 to build applications with C++, C#, VB.Net, Cx, or JavaScript."

Microsoft also intends to sell the Xbox One's Kinect sensor separately at some point this year. The manufacturer has yet to reveal a price, but Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has suggested that it "probably won't be exactly $100" - referring to the difference in price between the Kinect-less Xbox One and the standard issue Kinected model.

Spencer has also insisted that the launch of a Kinect-less Xbox One isn't the nail in the coffin for Kinect gaming at large. Among other developers, Iridium (There Came An Echo), Harmonix (Fantasia: Music Evolved), Access Games (D4) and HESAW (Blue Estate) continue to champion the peripheral.
