PSN down after suffering DDOS attack

Sony isn't expected to begin maintenance on the PlayStation Network until tomorrow, but PlayStation users were surprised to wake up and find that the online service is already down.

Upon trying to login to PSN, users are greeted with error code "NW-31456-9," which reads "Cannot connect to the server within the time limit."

I got the error code: "NW-31201-7," which simply reads "Cannot connect to the server."

Apparently, it is the result of a DDOS attack by a hacking group known as Lizard Squad. The group admitted to the attack, but didn't really give a reason other than the usual "Sony is a greedy corporation" excuse.

The official Sony PlayStation hasn't confirmed if this is the case, but Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley acknowledged the "large scale DDOS," adding that "it's almost under control now."

Xbox lve is not some server sent from the heavens.


The only problem with that, is Xbox doesn't piss a bunch of hackers off.

Therefore, Xbox is never down from hackers DDosing. Don't needs to learn how to function with a community better.

But I have to say Xbox Servers are alot better than PSN Severs Ive only seen xbox Live go down for a few hours or at least with a day. There has been alot of times where PSN would go down for a few days, Im not saying one is better than the other becasue I own both consoles Its just what I have seen myself.

IMO this happens to sony and well not Microsoft is because sony isn't meeting consumer expectations. I do agree with the whole pay to play thing now because they just switched up on you guys. This has nothing to do with XBL but speaking of it is alright. The reason this doesn't happen to XBL is they're damn near perfect. They are meeting expectations and are doing more and more for their customers as they go. Obviously sony is going down a bad road, Few years back is was anonymous now its lizard squad. These people putting out these attacks have cause, Let the company do right by all of you and improve what they can.

Any size? That's debatable. Reasonable sizes, yes. If somebody with like a 700k botnet hit Sony...they'd break Sony. They're probably break their network too, but that's beside the point. However, you do have great point that I tried to reinforce earlier - Sony's server are weaker and their response time is longer than the average tech giant.

here we go again -_- I swear if this happens when Destiny comes out I'll be pissed.
only reason I wasted so much money on the ps4 was for Destiny.
