PSN down after suffering DDOS attack

Sony isn't expected to begin maintenance on the PlayStation Network until tomorrow, but PlayStation users were surprised to wake up and find that the online service is already down.

Upon trying to login to PSN, users are greeted with error code "NW-31456-9," which reads "Cannot connect to the server within the time limit."

I got the error code: "NW-31201-7," which simply reads "Cannot connect to the server."

Apparently, it is the result of a DDOS attack by a hacking group known as Lizard Squad. The group admitted to the attack, but didn't really give a reason other than the usual "Sony is a greedy corporation" excuse.

The official Sony PlayStation hasn't confirmed if this is the case, but Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley acknowledged the "large scale DDOS," adding that "it's almost under control now."

ODST Cool that the article is actually written in the form of raising a flame war TTG. This is pathetic news formatting and research on the subject at hand. The "LizardSquad" also targeted Blizzard, Riot, and Grinding Gear Games. Stop posting news articles that even you're not qualified post.
My vote is to remove this post OR add the reminder that both services between consoles have been DDOS's recently such as XBL back in January.

AR is right. This has happened to Sony a whole lot more than Microsoft. No I'm not a microsoft fanboy. I play on PC (and I'm not an elitist either).

xbl is down randomly for short hours every week ever since ive had my xb1 its always down not hacked but down meaning useless never the less. and xbox live now has a service alert


I've xbox one and I never had problem with it. You must have crappy internet then.


not to mention i cant download a full blu ray movie in a few minutes. Oh and my xbox one say my nat type is open but yeah i guess everyone that has issues with just the xbox live service and nothing else on there computers or anything just has crappy internet.

They all are, Dylan. That is why they are such huge companies. They care far more about making money than they do keeping their loyal communities happy and what not.


sony loses money on ps4 because of going with the gddr5 rather then the cheap memory xbox one went with they look out for us in ways people dont realize. now xbox on the other hand will ban you and take all your remain xbox live and your console.
