EA has two teams prototyping Apple Watch game experiences

4.6
Apple revealed its new piece of wearable tech yesterday, a watch with a touchscreen, fitness apps and all sorts of other smart device functionality. Among the possibilities with the Apple Watch are gaming applications; EA has confirmed it is actively investigating, and was listed among the developers on-board with the device yesterday.

EA Mobile head Frank Gibeau told CNET that the publisher has "two teams prototyping wearable experiences that are not only standalone, but also some ideas where you can actually use the fitness component in the watch that can unlock capabilities in the game that might be on your iPhone." Gibeau suggested that Watch users could possibly handle minor game experiences on the device, such as "crafting or some auction trading on your watch that goes back into your tablet game that you might check out later when you get home."

The publisher sees a trend in the rise of wearable technology, in that "wearables are going to increase in performance, capability and unique functions over time that we believe will enable gaming experiences," Gibeau said. He added that the "emergence of another gaming platform is compelling" for EA. Of course, this is the same company that called the decision to jettison sports games (such as FIFA 14 and FIFA 15) from Wii U a "rational" business decision, and the same executive that said the company goes "where the audience is." For those equally intrigued, our friends at Engadget went wrists-on with the Watch at Apple's event.

This device looks like a kiddie toy, not something an actual grown up would wear. Why would they create an expensive watch for a generation that doesn't wear watches? Is this the 3-D TV of the mobile world, device that very few people would ever pay significant money for?

Looks like the shuffle watch IMO

DeTaiLz I see no point in this. Everyone uses phones now.

Well for example, it is a hassle to keep taking out a phone to view a text message or check the time.
If you have extra money, or can get this as a gift it would be worth it.

MVPapi Apple releases a money grabbing piece of technology. Its sole purpose is to make money. That's evident, because why do you need a **** watch that does this ****? Who even wears watches anymore now mobile phones have become a thing?

Now EA, another one of the money grabbing 500 companies are saying they're looking into a watches' ability to play games? I'd rather put my bollocks through a cheesegrater than waste that much money.

Yeah, its rediculous, the screen is far to small to even watch/do anything with anyways. A watch is to tell the time, not to sit and play games on.

Latency There is a video on youtube of how much this watch sucks.

It doesn't seem very appealing to me either, however it may be a good idea to some.

OPPosted:

Rin It doesn't seem like something worth buying. Unless it's suddenly used for "fashion".

Well idk it just looks like it would interesting to have. It will probably be normal soon.
