Buy last-gen Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, upgrade to new-gen free

Activision has announced that customers who purchase Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare digitally on Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able to download the new-gen version within the same console family for free.

When users download a free digital copy of Advanced Warfare on Xbox One or PS4 they'll retain the licenses for both console versions, allowing them to continue playing the last-gen editions if they wish.

Progress, stats, and gear will carry over from the last-gen to new-gen versions, as will the DLC season pass included in the Advanced Warfare Atlas Pro Edition for Xbox 360 and PS3.

The full game upgrade offer will expire on March 31, 2015, Activision said in a new-gen upgrade FAQ

Sledgehammer boss Glen Schofield said in September that Advanced Warfare's campaign will be longer than those of recent series entries, reflecting an extended three-year development schedule.

Sledgehammer also announced Advanced Warfare's co-op mode, Exo Survival, and took the wraps off the title's multiplayer component with a series of reveal videos.

The Call of Duty Advanced Warfare release date is November 4 on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC.

It's nice that they're doing this. I remember last year Gamestop did something sort of similar, where you trade in your last gen copy of the game to get the next gen one, but you had to pay an extra $10 to do it.

Decisions, decisions. I have all of the Xbox Call of Duty games on disk. Not sure if I should continue that or get this one digitally like I did Destiny so I could have it on both consoles. Deep down, I hate digital downloads. I'm not sure I can pass it up on both console though. First world problems.

Hm, so we get 2 copies free? Or do we have to turn in the first one? As I own both consoles but will probably play on 360. Maybe on the X1 to avoid modders, ._.
