The Evil Within is locked at 30 FPS on PC

4.6
The PC port of The Evil Within will be locked at 30 frames-per-second, just like the console version, Bethesda has confirmed.

Despite requiring a hefty PC to run it on recommended settings, The Evil Within will still be locked at 30FPS on PC, similar to the Xbox One and PS4 versions.

Bethesda confirmed this and much more in a forum post. “Shinji Mikami and the team at Tango designed The Evil Within to be played at 30fps and to utilize an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 for all platforms,” it reads.

“The team has worked the last four years perfecting the game experience with these settings in mind.”

Bethesda added that it will provide a list of debug commands that would let you unlock the game’s framerate and aspect ratio, though it warned that they’re not recommended or supported.

The publisher also added that the 4GB VRAM requirement on PC is due to new-gen consoles having 8GB of unified ram. The PC version being an identical port, is why it requires this amount of VRAM.

'PC Master Race' Lololol. Well, I mean, this doesn't even look like a good game.

This just sucks, 30 FPS is so terrible compared to 60 FPS. Resolution is rarely as important.

Miss FPS doesn't mean much, as long as it has great resolution it will look awesome.

Uhh if anything FPS is more important than res. Id rather play a game at 60fps 720p than 30fps 1080p

Depends on the game and what hardware you have. You don't need 60fps for a turn based strategy game but for FPS you need 60. ETC

If you want the turn based game to be smooth and nice to look at you do want 60fps. There is absolutely no excuse for making a game locked at 30fps. Even locking at 60fps is seen as a poor decision in the PC world.

SgtHatred42 Ohhh man what happened to pc master race? Lol

Absolutely nothing, a developer just decided to get lazy and port over a low end console version.

Well looks like this will be a sure console purchase for me, not only is my PC a little outdated for this, I would just never spend money on something that doesn't allow me the liberty that PC games usually offer to me, which is what I love.

The PC port
locked at 30FPS on PC, similar to the Xbox One and PS4 versions.

Shitty "next-gen" consoles mixed in with devs pushing out lazy console ports happened to it.

There will be a community patch to fix these issues in a month or so just like every other crappy console port PC gets.

There will be a tool to unlock the framerate like every other locked framerate game ever. Might even be in the INI file.
