Lizard Squad returns, takes down Xbox LIVE

Notorious DDoS group Lizard Squad is back, and this time they've targeted Xbox LIVE.

Although Microsoft hasn't updated its Xbox LIVE Status page to confirm the troubles, a number of users have taken to social media to report the issues they're experiencing on both Xbox One and Xbox 360. They've expressed frustration at Microsoft, though it appears the outage isn't an issue with Microsoft's online infrastructure; rather, it seems to be a result of notorious hacker group Lizard Squad. The group, now known as Lizard Patrol on Twitter, is taking credit for taking down Xbox LIVE.


The group teased that tonight's issues are just a "small dose of what's to come on Christmas."

Lizard Squad was notorious for launching DDoS attacks earlier this year. In September, the group targeted multiple online games and services including Sony's PlayStation Network, Twitch.tv, League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Destiny. They also DDoS attacked Sony Online Entertainment, even go so far as to report a fake bomb threat on a plane carrying SOE president John Smedley.

Twitter eventually suspended the group's handle, which actually grew to have quite a following. Lizard Squad re-emerged as Lizard Patrol back in October, but had remained relatively quiet. Only recently have they become more active.

We'll continue to monitor the situation.

gtapro151 i have both a xb1 and ps4 but im kind of glad now the xbox fan boys can stop thinking its invinceable. it was also having issues the night AW launched i couldent download cod it took me 16 hours on a 50 mb connection. "service alert" on that night as well. On another note microsoft better not let themselves be attacked on christmas that would really suck

24/7? Only happened once bud, and that was a few years ago. Clearly you're upset that your precious XBL is vulnerable just like everything else.


Thank you. I used to have a 360 but went PS4 and we've only been taken down like once or twice. Just because back in like 2009 PSN was down for like 3 months doesnt mean that we havent improved and that Xbox is unstoppable.

All that happened was they got DDos'd, which is gonna take a second to track/get justice. I was on twitter as it happened, they are taking action. You guys will live, it happened on a MONDAY. How do you even have the time to play Xbox enough to complain??

I was in a party, on AW and on Netflix most of yesterday and today and I've had no issues at all.

gtapro151 weather it be sony or microsoft the anger needs to be directed towards the no lifes doing it not at fellow gamers claiming one system is better because the other is being attacked. the internet is the internet anything can be attacked and takin down if sombody has no life and sits around all day to figure it out.
