PSN Taken Down In Major DDoS Attack By Lizard Squad

PlayStation Network went down throwing thousands of gamers offline and rendering many services unusable. Lizard Squad has, as usual, taken credit for the outage.

The attack is very real, too. You can see a visual representation of the DDOS attack live on websites such as Digital Attack Map. Traffic appears to originate from proxies in China which are slamming the North American PSN servers. There also appears to be an attack hitting Peru. It is presently unclear what this is affecting.

Over 1,400 Twitter users have already retweeted the post offering just a glimpse at how profound of an impact it has had. Not only are PS4 users affected, but so are those on PS3 and PS Vita.

Last weekend Lizard Squad took down not only Xbox Live, but impacted the arrival of World of Warcraft; Warlords of Draenor‘s first PvP season and raid dungeon. It accomplishes this through DDoS attacks, which essentially bombard servers that host online services with traffic to a point where they are incapable of handling connections from real users.

I think it's kinda funny that all the PSN stuff is down and Xbox Live only had 360 go completely down while xbox one was running fine.

So Xbox goes down and all the comments are defending Xbox. PSN goes down and everyone talks bad about Sony. So much stupid hate on Sony, that makes no sense at all, and I'm an Xbox person.

No clue prob cause someone came over onto the xbox's version on the article to mock what happened, maybe they just don't like sony, either way I just hope we can all go back to gaming regardless of what platform.

It is typical Sony.

Remember when they went down for basically a whole month in what, 2010ish? Haha. Sony is easy to hit hence most people attack Sony. They have no defense.

As of the " xbox got hit. " Yeah, they did, for about 2 hours at like 3am. It did nothing. Sony is just a weak company that only cares about profit and not security. That's why Lizard are attacking them.
