Halo: The Master Chief Collection getting Halo 3: ODST for free

343 Industries announced that they will be adding Halo 3: ODST to Halo: The Master Chief Collection for free to anyone who has played the game between the launch date and today.

As a part of this, they are giving away Relic, the Halo 2: Anniversary Multiplayer Map for free. Halo 3: ODST will be upgraded to 1080p resolution and will run at 60fps.

We are so grateful to our fans who have stood by our side and we appreciate all of your patience as we worked through these issues. As a token of our appreciation and to thank fans for the continued support and understanding, we will be offering the following items, for free, to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection online since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14)."


The following items will be free:
  • 1 Month of Xbox Live Gold
  • Exclusive In-Game Nameplate
  • Exclusive In-Game Avatar
  • Halo 3: ODST Campaign – Development has just started on the campaign for Halo 3: ODST, which will be available within Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and upgraded to 1080p resolution, running at 60fps. It will be available for free to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).* Thanks to our friends at Bungie for creating the original “Halo 3: ODST” campaign.
  • “Relic” Halo 2: Anniversary Multiplayer Map – Available via a free content update to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, we will reimagine the fan-favorite map “Relic,” fully remastered and running at 1080p resolution and 60fps. We chose this map based on its suitability for Slayer and Objective modes and its ability to support teams of varying sizes. And you can trust that Certain Affinity will tune and tweak the map to make it even better than you remember.


Head of 343 Industries Bonnie Ross said they will be giving these items away due to the rocky launch that everyone has had to endure.

All of the Reach haters..... Reach's multiplayer Armors looked better than any other halo game, and lets not forget about the legendary forge world.

Unless you havent played the game since launch the multiplayer has been improved drastically.

ODST was way better than Reach. Even though it didn't have a multi-player. That story was so good though.


I agree, trying to get the vidmaster achievment was a pain, but so much fun. I had much more fun on odst then reach.

I only played a good 30 minutes of ODST, but yeah it was better than Reach.

Having to work all day and now they are going to give halo odst ! Am so happy but I have so many games to finish I haven't even beat halo 2 because I work to much :(

I seriously agree with you, it seems that most halo fans that support 343 only came late in the series, tend to be around halo 4 or maybe reach, (the worst)


Yeah 343 really **** up the Halo series by making Halo 4 and Halo 5 appeal to the casual gamers. I really do like the fact that they are giving Halo 3 ODST for free as ODST was an awesome game and firefight was way better in ODST than in Reach. Other than that 343 just completey destroyed Halo by adding these "new features" that just make Halo seem like COD Advanced Warfare DLC or Expansion Pack. I am interested to play Halo 5 and see if 343 can redeem themselves but from the look of the gameplay trailers it doesn't look very good for 343 and Halo


I have been with Halo since Halo: CE on original xbox and i kinda agree and disagree. I mean they cant stay the same like call of duty because then really no one would want it bu they keep following other games and try to copy them. i iwsh they would just stick as an original game rather than these piece of shit jetpacks and stuff. They did however destroy Halo a bit with MCC but once all the issues are resolved that game will be amazing. they seem to worried about Halo 5 rather than fixing the game that came out broken and still isnt all the way fixed.

Personally I really enjoyed the ODST campaign, but I still haven't got a chance to get a copy of the master cheif collection yet. Hopefully I get to check it out soon.
