Steam Machines 'more powerful' than consoles hit this fall

4.6
Valve continues to put console gaming in its crosshairs with news that a dozen new Steam Machines are hitting this November. Prices aren't concrete, but the company promises higher performance than game consoles starting at "the same price point." What's more, new units from Alienware and Falcon Northwest are on display at this year's Game Developers Conference, with the latter showing off Unreal Tournament running on a 4K monitor.

"Steam Machines ALWAYS MORE POWERFUL than consoles hit this fall"

I don't think Sean actually posts the news on here, if he does then I've lost respect for him. And the quote was from Valve, you cannot simply add your own words to a quote because you believe it should be ammended. Otherwise, it's not a quote anymore it's an interpretation of a quote.

You messed up, actually.

200 Good because i want a gaming PC, consoles are boring now

The Steam Machine literally is a hybrid of console and PC, I think it's going to be far more superior tbh

Radian More powerful than consoles doesn't mean much when consoles by their very nature are easier to get better performance out of than PCs.

Better performance!? If you want to sit there playing a game in a scaled up 1080p res and 35fps then yeah, consoles are okay. But no way does a console get a better performance than a decent gaming PC. 4K res, non existent on consoles. 60 FPS is only just coming round, 1080p is only a thing on the PS4. The Xbox One scales it up. To mention that it took 9 generations of console to finally achieve 1080p and 60 FPS, goes to show you which has more potential and better performance.

Not to mention you can always upgrade your PC, adding more RAM, new processors, even just changing the OS. Tell me the last time you updated the RAM in your console? Or you changed the OS on your console because you felt as though the one you were updating with is superior?

You comment the most retarded comments on here, clearly just to get the badge. Badge whores like you should be banned from recieving badges. Idiot.

Not surprising consoles are falling behind

Is this really a big surprise?

This is great and all, and I like the idea... but I don't think they are going to sell.

For one, it's an entire new platform. Yeah, you have all your steam games but for people who have a console already, this is not going to be a good buy. Unless all of your friends are planning on getting one too... then maybe.

Secondly, people who wanna play PC games will probably get a PC, or build their own. A PC for a similar price can do the same stuff and more, like running windows or Mac... etc.

We'll see... Valve is trying to get into a game I'm not sure it can handle yet.
