The petition, which is addressed to Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg and Infinity Ward CEO Jason West, states that "Modern Warfare 2 was one of Activision's best game. Just a fun & enjoyable game that really gives you that nostalgia feeling. The guns, maps, kill streaks were just incredible."
It goes on, however, that "At the moment mw2 for the ps3 & xbox is just overrun by hackers. If they remaster the game, & sort a couple things out (e.g noob tubing) it would make a lot of people happy. [sic]"
Unfortunately, it probably won't happen -- even with the petition hitting its goal. We reached out to Activision for comment on the petition and so far we've heard nothing that gives us any sort of inkling that the publisher would remaster one of their past games. And why would they? With a new Call of Duty releasing every year, why would Activision risk cannibalizing its sales? There's already complaints of gamer fatigue when it comes to the Call of Duty franchise; I can't imagine releasing two in one year would help with that, despite how amazing Modern Warfare 2 was.
At the very least, maybe the petition will elicit some sort of response from Activision, but I wouldn't count on it. A representative didn't sound too optimistic.
Update: After hitting its goal of 150,000 the petition has been changed to a goal of 200,000.
