Steam Now Limits Users Accounts Based On Purchase History

4.7
In order to counteract spam and phishing accounts on Steam, Valve has introduced Limited User Accounts. These are user accounts that have spent less than $5 USD on Steam. If you happen to have a Steam account but have never spent money or only received games as gifts from friends you’re following unfortunately this means you won’t have some key features on Steam.
These restricted features include:

Sending friend invites
Opening group chat
Voting on Greenlight, Steam Reviews and Workshop items
Participating in the Steam Market
Posting frequently in the Steam Discussions
Gaining Steam Profile Levels (Locked to level 0) and Trading Cards
Submitting content on the Steam Workshop
Posting in an item’s Steam Workshop Discussions
Accessing the Steam Web API
Using browser and mobile chat

To escape being a Limited User Account all you have to do is a add $5 USD or more to your wallet, purchase a game that is $5 USD or more, add a Steam Wallet card to your account or purchase a Steam gift that is $5 USD or more.
The usage of USD is important as Steam will convert whatever other type of money that is used in your region into USD using the daily exchange rate. Activating a retail game on Steam, receiving a gift, playing demos or free games, and participating in promotional events such as Free Weekends will not activate your account.

Hei
n3xtstuff If anyone thinks this is a dumb idea, You obviously know nothing about trading items and the mass amount of spam/phishing accounts on steam. Blocking them for social features means they are useless unless they spend 5$ on each spam account. Which if anyone is smart they wont do.

Or..... they could just not allow you to trade anything until you spend $5... For the first 2 years I was on steam My friends would gift me games, Now you can't even make any friends without money. What a pathetic execution in my opinion.

I agree, even though i havent bought any gasmes, my friends still gift me cheap little games to play with them

Great feature this, should really help cut down on spam. Also $5 is a reasonable amount.

No more bot accounts asking me to look at the screenshot of their new knife in CSGO..

This is actually a really smart / hassle-free idea from them.

DeluxeHazard So basically to have all of the features of Steam you have to pay $5 towards a game on Steam.
If you haven't spend at least $5 on steam, what's the point of even using it? lol, you obviously don't use it much..

I find this very innovative, and such a smart solution. Plus, people who're already on steam don't have to worry.
