It seems that multiplayer is often shoehorned into games these days to check boxes and dredge up the odd newcomer to a franchise, so it’s surprising to see a studio break away from the herd to scrap it entirely.
Ubisoft Quebec have confirmed that the newest Assassin’s Creed will be single player only, so that they can focus on delivering the best experience possible. Talking to Gamespot, Executive producer Francois Pelland cited technical reasons as having a large impact on the decision. It turns out that having multiple players charging about on vehicles simultaneously “adds complexity”, and combined with the fast-paced combat that requires a “very high responsiveness on the system”, it seemed better to cut it out, rather than compromise on quality.
