The multiplayer in Call of Duty: Black Ops is important. So much so in fact that instead of the usual ‘let’s turn a single-player level into a multiplayer map’ approach, Treyarch did it the other way around.

Having separate teams dedicated to single-player, multiplayer and co-op allowed the studio to get the multiplayer part of the shooter off the ground “so early that some single-player levels actually are being built around multiplayer maps that we had in production,” community manager Josh Olin has revealed.

He told IGN in an interview: “So it’s not the other way around. It’s not single-player maps being brought into multiplayer, it’s multiplayer being brought into single-player, so that’s how ahead of the game they were.”

Still no word on those Nazi zombies though…
