Halo 5 co-op requires Xbox Live Gold

4.5
Halo 5 will require you and your BFF to cough up for Xbox Live Gold if you want to play co-op together.

Halo 5: Guardians got a big info blowout this month, and one of the more interesting bits of intel was word that you’d be able to play the co-op campaign without an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

This seemed like very good news as 343 Industries has ditched local co-op via splitscreen, meaning you have to go online to play with your buddy. Unfortunately, it’s not true.

Writing on Halo Waypoint executive producer Josh Holmes said he “misspoke when stating that online co-op campaign would be supported with an Xbox Live Silver account”.

“Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play,” he confirmed.

After apologising, Holmes offered a partial solution:

“It is important to us that fans have the opportunity to play the full co-op campaign experience and we are doing this by providing a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial with Halo 5: Guardians,” he said.

That’s something, anyway. Halo 5: Guardians releases this November. Expect to see it at Microsoft’s E3 2015 conference at 9.30am PDT on June 16.

Attaboy I personally find no problem with this, because I find Xbox is rather pointless without having gold, and if you have gold you'll be able to use other features on the Xbox as it is.

I mean who has an xbox without gold hahaah?

Can't see why this is an issue, this is something I would just expect in a game...

I hate how they took away split screen, now my friends have to buy an Xbox One and Gold just to play through a campaign.

YouricHunt They're stupid for doing this, working with Microsoft to make as much $$$ they possibly can.

Well to be fair I think having an xbox without gold is useless already. Besides they're practically giving you half a month anyways so you can enjoy it if you're truely to cheap to py the extra few dollars a year to play video games with your friends.

It's only useless without gold because Microsoft has done everything they can to make it that way.

Not really, they just make it better to have gold. What have they done to change things? You don't need gold to play an Xbox One, you don't NEED gold to play a 360. I'm not fanboying over Microsoft, I don't even play console.

Hasn't it been like that forever? We need gold to play any game online so why wouldn't you need gold.
