New Xbox One backwards compatibility details

Microsoft has revealed several new details about how the upcoming Xbox One backwards compatibility feature will work.

During a demonstration today, the company confirmed Xbox One owners will be able to play older titles online with gamers who own an Xbox 360, and also explained a bit more about what functionality the games will have.

The Xbox button on the controller will take you to the soon-to-be-revamped Xbox One home screen, but pressing the View and Menu buttons simultaneously will bring up the old Xbox 360 guide replete with all its features. Screenshots and DVR support are also present.


As for why putting a disc in triggers a download, it was explained the system's design means all games must be partially on the hard drive to run. Also it's worth noting that while this is essentially software emulation, hardware won't be supported so old Rock Band peripherals and the like still won't work.

Finally, as a word of caution, when the system launches this Holiday it'll do so with over 100 titles, but publishers will need to give their permission for games to work. This does raise the question of whether those who've recently released HD Remasters will want to enable it right away but, for now, we'll have to wait and see.

NDSxFTW there is a list of 100 games,very unlikely to find any of the CoDs on that list


You might want to restate that...... Number one game the community wants is red dead redemption. The 2nd is black ops 2. Look on the forums and vote for the list.

We're talking about Activision. The number 1 money hungry game publisher besides EA, CoD isnt gonna be on that list lol


Why wouldn't they be on the list? Regardless of if you play on the 360 or X1, you'd still need to have the game purchased somehow. I'm sure there are a lot of people who got rid of their 360 stuff and got the X1. Now they have to go back and re-buy the games in some circumstances. It's actually smart to do this so developers can get a little more money for their old games.

I think too many people are getting confused with Microsoft's announcement. They have confirmed 100 games but that doesn't mean every Xbox 360 game will be backwards compatible.
