Microsoft Considers Unlocking Xbox 360 Once Support Ends

4.6
Microsoft could consider the idea of unlocking Xbox 360 once its lifecycle and developers support officially ends, according to Xbox Head Phil Spencer. The news comes as Spencer himself answered a question by a fan, hinting this could be a proper option for the future of the platform.

Even though Spencer didn't offer an "official answer", he said Microsoft will have to think about it in the future "to state our plan", as you can see in the tweet below.

Unlocking Xbox 360 would allow people to turn their consoles in emulators and put them into custom cabinets, for example, but this is just one example from the many things you could do with an unlocked system.

There is no point in doing this from their point of view.
People already modify and unlock their consoles. ;)

Whey What exactly would "unlocking" an Xbox enable you to do ?

Says one of the things it could do in the article.

"Unlocking Xbox 360 would allow people to turn their consoles in emulators and put them into custom cabinets, for example, but this is just one example from the many things you could do with an unlocked system."

Copying what I already read in the article doesn't make things any clearer ..

Since people feel too lazy to help you out and tell you, custom cabinets are arcade cabinets that people make for themselves. Think arcade machine. Idk why that was even mentioned as a plus.. There are already so many systems available for cabinets that are much cheaper.

Realistically what unlocking it would do is allow it to run homebrew and unsigned code. You could do everything a Jtag/RGH would do. I feel like that would have been a easier way to explain what this whole thing is.

This would actually be a great idea instead of letting them all go to waste.

If you don't know what custom cabinets and emulators are then just use Google, it's not hard.

What does this even do? Unlocking? Unlocking Xbox 360 would allow people to turn their consoles in emulators and put them into custom cabinets, for example, but this is just one example from the many things you could do with an unlocked system.

Okay so I googled Custom cabinets. And got an actual cabinet? WTF? can`t you already put you`re Xbox anywhere you want in you`re home this nes does not explain what unlocking an Xbox could do.

That's cool man! You completely copied this articles shit answer, and didn't even attempt to answer his question either! Your a genius, man. Nicely done!

Bud he put quotes to highlight a specific quote. Chill, he was being helpful

Actually you are wrong, he was NOT being helpful. And F.Y.I. Telling someone to "chill" only aggravates them further. You probably already know that by now, since all you do is annoy people on the Internet all day.

Chill...

But seriously the quote from the article is an answer as it clearly gives an example of what you can do with an unlocked console
