Microsoft Considers Unlocking Xbox 360 Once Support Ends

4.6
Microsoft could consider the idea of unlocking Xbox 360 once its lifecycle and developers support officially ends, according to Xbox Head Phil Spencer. The news comes as Spencer himself answered a question by a fan, hinting this could be a proper option for the future of the platform.

Even though Spencer didn't offer an "official answer", he said Microsoft will have to think about it in the future "to state our plan", as you can see in the tweet below.

Unlocking Xbox 360 would allow people to turn their consoles in emulators and put them into custom cabinets, for example, but this is just one example from the many things you could do with an unlocked system.

I just read all of that what do they mean by unlocking? Sounds asif they will takeout all security and make it basically an peace of hardware then can run random os? or just basically make modding heaven on earth happen??

would this effectively make every console a RGH?

Lynxr should be about 3 more years if the Original Xbox is anything to go by.

Yeah, but the Original Xbox wasn't as popular as the Xbox 360. They only shut down the Original due to lack of players. 360 still have tons of players. Up their in the millions still.

Whey What exactly would "unlocking" an Xbox enable you to do ?

Says one of the things it could do in the article.

"Unlocking Xbox 360 would allow people to turn their consoles in emulators and put them into custom cabinets, for example, but this is just one example from the many things you could do with an unlocked system."

By the time support ends for the xbox 360, xbox one will have alot of online modding.

Its going to be a good while before this happens
