Xbox One to Windows 10 streaming has a hidden video setting

4.6
Those wondering how to unlock a high quality streaming option with the Xbox One streaming app on Windows 10 will be pleased to know it’s not a hard thing to do.

At least it doesn’t appear that way, going by this reddit post from OomaThurman.

Apparently, the Very High can be unlocked by editing the “userconsoledata” file in the Xbox app folder.

Once inside, you will need to change the IsInternalPreview from “false” to “true”.

Here’s the path: C:Users%USERNAME%AppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.XboxApp_~~~~~~LocalState

OomaThurman said he didn’t recommend changing the the settings unless the user has “exceptional networking gear and an understanding” of what they are doing.

Digital Foundry conducted a test based on the reddit post, and found the Very High quality mode “works just fine,” though “bandwidth utilization across the network increases significantly, to the point where throughput hits a consistent 18mbps.”

“The new preset appears to transmit full 1080p imagery – something that isn’t achieved on the lower quality options, which scale up from lower resolution streams,” reads the report. “Despite the increase in bandwidth, there’s no further impact to performance – but based on our tests, the streaming functionality still needs a fair amount of work.

“There’s a high degree of inconsistency in performance that sees native 60fps games play at around 40fps via Windows 10 streaming, while 30fps titles suffer from obvious frame-pacing issues. The frustrating aspect is that there are occasional, completely clean moments of 60fps gameplay on games like Forza 5 – the tech is clearly capable of better consistency, and we hope to see this aspect substantially improved in a future update.”

Why would they hide it? It's a good feature.

I believe this setting is applied within the PC settings not xbox.

i don't think it's actually "hidden" per say, just a minor coding error.

ThomasTheDankEngine Pretty cool i guess but not sure why its a hidden video setting

It's probably because right now you need a high-bandwidth network to use the feature. Since the part you change is under "Internal Preview," I would assume they are still working on stability and lag issues related to the high-quality streaming

Hard to find, but all together not really a "secret."
