Halo 6 Writing Has Already Begun, “Serious, Real Planning” Going On

343 Industries’ Halo 5: Guardians is roughly a month away but the developer is already making plans for the sequel.

According to franchise development director Frank O’Connor in conversation with GamesRadar, “We do kind of know what’s going to happen in the next game pretty well at this point. We’re doing serious, real planning and even some writing on the next game already, and that’s a luxury – we’ve never been in that position before.”

We do know that Halo 4, the first game in the franchise to be developed by 343 Industries after Bungie’s departure, was set to begin The Reclaimer Trilogy. This would have included Halo 5 and Halo 6 but is now a saga. It’s very much possible that things with Master Chief don’t end so easily even with Halo 6.

Halo 5: Guardians releases on October 27th for Xbox One so we’ll have some idea of the direction 343 Industries is going in. What are your thoughts on the franchise at this point? Let us know in the comments.

ME0W I hope they're talking about writing the story, and not actually writing ideas for the gameplay, because they should really focus on making sure Halo 5 is perfect before trying to design another game.

Most likely halo 5 is completed, I bet now it is the manufacturing and shipping. I doubt they're still working on the game (even if they say they are) this is a world wide release, not just a country specific, so they need to be on point with manufacturing. They could be fixing things, but those will be updates if they are in the process I said they are in

They are just getting the basic writing done for the story

Polygon I feel like developers shouldn't give information like this so early.

I agree, it makes us feel like they are in it for the money and the one that is about to come out is gonna be crap.

Personally, writing it is the first step to developing it. It may also give them time to actually prepare and make its successor even better than previous titles!
