Riot bans key reseller G2A from sponsoring League of Legends teams

League of Legends developer Riot Games has banned third-party key reseller G2A from sponsoring any League teams.

G2A, the third-party key reseller that seems to always be in the news for the wrong reasons, has stirred up another hornet’s nest. This time, it’s Riot Games’, developers of League of Legends.

Riot has banned the compnay from sponsoring any League of Legends teams. The ban has been in effect since mid-September, according to Riot’s J. Eckert.

The reason being G2A’s refusal to remove account selling and boosting from its website, both which violate Riot’s terms of use. Boosting, for instance, allows players to pay a few dollars and have someone else play for them to get around the game’s ranking system and straight into higher leagues.

As a result, teams like Cloud9, H2K, Counter Logic Gaming, and paiN Gaming have all removed the seller’s logos from merchandise and branding at the 2015 League of Legends World Championships, according to DailyDot. The site also notes that Riot has done the same with Kinguin, another key seller that was asked to remove those types of services and failed to do so.

“This was NOT a decision we made lightly, and came after many weeks of back and fourth conversations with G2A to find a resolution,” said Eckert.

“We do not at all enjoy affecting the income of the teams, but the LCS rules include guidelines specifically against this sort of thing. We did however keep teams in the loop during the process in an attempt to avoid any surprises.”

-Deano I don't really get why they are so bothered about it considering the pro teams don't need an account boosted or something like that... They are the pros after all.

I guess it gives a bad image on the company if they allow them to sponsor pro teams.
I hope Riot at least give some kind of compensation for cutting out key sponsors for the teams.

They pay the players salaries, they owe them nothing. It's in the rules and it's in the contracts.

Pro never played this game, but its a bit unfair for the people that do.

Yeah same and it is but its their own fault to be honest.
