Fallout 4 PC can’t be installed from disc alone

If you buy Fallout 4 for PC on a disc, you’ll need to download a whack of content from Steam.

Fallout 4 won’t ship entirely on-disc for PC; you’ll need to activate the game on Steam to download the rest.

“You will still have to download from Steam. The disc doesn’t contain the entire game,” Bethesda boss Pete Hines said on Twitter.

Asked why the console version doesn’t require an extra download, Hines said it’s a combination of DRM and the limited storage space of DVDs.

“PC requires activation on Steam. Console does not. Console ship on Blu-rays, PC ships on DVDs,” the executive said in a followup tweet.

In yet another tweet, Hines confirmed that “piracy” is the reason why PC games require Steam activation. He received an angry reply, and responded with class.

“Well we’ve been doing it this way more or less for 10+ years. Seems to be doing ok. Lots of people bought Skyrim, Wolfenstein, etc,” Hines said.

Fallout 4 is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 10.

Mickers It's never just simple is it.


It is simple, you just install the rest of the game from steam since it cant fit on a disk.


It can fit onto a disc but it is a measure against piracy.

You do know it's practically going to be the same on consoles also right?


Yeah maybe in terms of the storyline sure. Everything else? Definitely going to be far superior.


Ah yes because Fallout 4 will ship with 8k graphics which every PC gamer have. Not only will the current gen only be able to play Fallout at 30FPS @ 720p, but PC will also include the option to virtually go inside the wasteland to explore.

The only differences will be minor graphic changes. The animation will remain the same. Why? Well because they will only "track" the animation for all their models ONCE. They are not going to have piss poor animation / movement for consoles and have almost perfect animation for PC.

Mods are also coming to xbox and I HIGHLY doubt that the mods will be crappy mods. IMO, the devs build a system where mods that work on PC will work on XBOX. Unless there are leaderboards or any sort of multiplayer then MS will only care about the mods if it makes the user's gamerscore goes up... but based on the past... if you install mods then you will most likely not be able to earn gamerscore.


And you will be wrong. Continue on with your post-purchase rationalization though.


PC has mods, console will not have as many mods. Especially since many mods can get very complex, especially texture mods and ENB which are installed so differently than any other mod.PC users can change animations and do so much more.
