Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 campaign can hardly hit 60fps on PS4 & Xbox

Black Ops 3’s campaign does not adhere to the golden 60fps rule Call of Duty games have always followed.

Digital Foundry published its analysis of the campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. In it, the site reveals that the game struggles to reach 60fps most of the time.

Having tested both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, Digital Foundry reveals that for most cut-scenes, Black Ops 3 mostly maintains 1080p quality. For gameplay segments, however, things get much worse.

The Xbox One version targets a resolution of 1600×900 for gameplay, but rarely hits it according to the site – running mostly at 1280×900 in= reality. The PlayStation 4 version fares better with its mostly-active 1080p lock, dropping down to 1360×1080 occasionally.

Frame-rate is a disappointment across the board, especially for a Call of Duty game. Digital Foundry reports that despite dynamic resolutions, Black Ops 3 reaches 60fps only during spots where combat is not a major component.

“On the face of it, the raw metrics we drew from our captures don’t look so bad – PS4 hands in an average frame-rate of 51fps, Xbox One is at 49fps,” the site noted.

“And it’s Xbox One where we see the most extreme scenarios where Treyarch’s precarious balancing act doesn’t really work out. A frantic shoot-out defending a control room is a low point: while PS4 sticks close to 60fps at various moments throughout the battle, Microsoft’s system frequently struggles to rise above the 35-45fps.”

want to know why they cant its cause they use amd(suck a bad produce for cpus since they are getting sued for false advertisement) the one and ps4 are using the worst if not one of the worst cpus as its an old one plus their consoles no big deal they should of never been 60fps anyways but yeah its sad that even for a weak game like cod/bf/bf(both battle field and battle front are bf) cant really hit that 60mark unless theirs nothing around.

You PCMR kids really are blinded by your own ignorance aren't you? Are PCs better than consoles performance wise? Yes. But then again, you're also paying for that extra performance. The AMD APUs that are packed into the current-gen consoles are far from "the worst if not one of the worst" when it comes to CPU performance. Why do you think they're so bad? "its an old one". Really? Both the X0 and PS4 run off a custom Jaguar APU (hardly the worst of the worst), and they don't even have dGPUs. A similar comparison would be pitting a laptop mGPU against a desktop dGPU, night and day. If you're going to boast about how great PC is and how shit consoles are at least know what you're talking about.

Not everyone can afford a nice custom PC that beats out a X0 or PS4, and even fewer know how to build and keep up with a self-built PC. Anyone who says they can build a PC from scratch that has everything you need and has equal if not better performance as a current-gen console for the price of an X0/PS4 is lying. Every time I've seen someone link a build that costs the same as console also omits an OS because "you can just pirate it" and only includes the mobo, gpu, cpu, hdd, ram, psu and a case. There's no keyboard, no mouse, no monitor, no speakers, no CD/DVD drive etc. So unless you want to pirate your OS and just so happen to have a mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor and anything else you'll need (WiFi dongle, Ethernet cables etc) lying around, your final product will be a $300+ door stop.

I play both console and PC, but I prefer using my console. Most of my friends are on Xbox, and I've spent about 6 years building my XBL profile. Could I play all my games on PC in a higher resolution than my Xbox w/ 60 FPS? Yeah sure, but I really don't want to. When I play games I just want to kick back and play with my friends on the account I've purchased all my games and DLC on over the years. Sacrificing that to play on Steam with my PC, but in a higher resolution is inane to me. Choosing to be a console gamer, whether because of ease of access, lack of money or confidence to build a PC or any other reason is fine, there's nothing wrong with playing on your Xbox 360/One or PS3/4. Play what you want to play, but don't put people down and call what platform they prefer (or can only afford) to play on shit because they don't play what you play.


tl;dr Don't be a dick and play whatever makes you happy.


You could also get the OS for free from a school, buy a code for $40 on g2a, and even get it installed through a usb drive. Also, it's 2015, just about everyone has a keyboard, mouse and monitor/hdmi compatible tv. You forgot to add a sofa, and a nice tv to the console price total.

Shieva As long as it doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the game; then I could careless if it dips down. I've been enjoying Black Ops 3 aside from the excessive camping.


Every cod has had a large amount of camping but with the new run and gun weapons should be easy to kill.... and the new abilities make it so easy to chase a rat out.

Well I've done campaign on realistic. Not noticed a single drop or anything other than the odd disconnect but that's an issue with the game/Xbox.
