Call of Duty tops 250M units sold worldwide

Call of Duty has sold so many copies you could probably construct some sort of super fort out of them.

Following on from word that Black Ops 3 was the best-selling game in the US in 2015, Activision has announced Call of Duty franchise sales have topped 250 million units worldwide.

Summoned from the labyrinthine corridors of Activision by the clarion call of the NPD, Call of Duty franchise general manager Rob Kostich said Black Ops 3 was the best-selling title of 2015 globally by a “wide-margin in both units and dollars”.

“This also marks the seventh year in a row that Call of Duty has been the #1 selling franchise in North America, according to NPD,” he said.

“In fact, Call of Duty has surpassed 250 million units sold life-to-date worldwide. This achievement is thanks to the amazing experiences created by all of our development teams, and would not be possible without the incredible passion from the Call of Duty community.”

Kostich said Activision is looking forward to “what’s to come” in 2016, presumably referring to Infinity Ward’s next effort. It’ll be the first time the team has had a three year cycle so expect a refreshed feel from the original* Call of Duty crew.

I would concur. It's kept the franchise afloat but it's not like COD is going to get up to MW3-tier sales any time soon

Would be great to see MW2,COD5,COD4,BO2 on next gen anyone of those would be so awesome


Na, the nextgen consoles are terrible compared to the originals.

this isnt much for all of the games.. skyrim is literally next to it, with one game sold


Haha, no it's not! Skyrim isn't even close to selling as many units as call of duty.. I'm not sure where you read that but Skyrim has only sold a little over 20 million units. Call of duty has sold over 250 million units. Amost 13x more than Skyrim.


Pretty much this.

And regardless of the success of other games, shipping 250 mil units is an astounding number form a purely commercial standpoint

54m for GTAV is super impressive though.

Even though everybody has talked crap on the last few CODs, it is still very impressive to see COD bringing up these numbers in sales.
