HoloLens Battery Holds 2.5-5.5 Hour Charge

4.6
With all the talk of virtual reality headsets like PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift, the augmented reality HoloLens has been staying out of the spotlight. However, thanks to Mircrosoft’s Bruce Harris, we now have more details on the technical aspect of the HoloLens.

At a conference in Tel Aviv, Harris mentioned that the battery life of HoloLens will be 5.5 hours maximum, with a 2.5 hour minimum after “intensive use.” The HoloLens, which is a completely wireless device, supports both WiFi and Bluetooth to connect to Windows 10 devices.

Additionally, the display field of view is equivalent of a 15-inch monitor 1 or 2-feet away from the face. While they have tested to make the field of view larger, it would require the cost to be multiplied by five and the battery life of intensive use to be shortened to 20 minutes.

With all of that said, Harris made a note that all of these will likely change for the better as the manufacturing costs decrease. While there is no indication on when HoloLens will be making it to market, development kit applications have already been sent out with a steep price of $3,000. That's really limiting in terms of the devices functionality. Batteries are sure a bottleneck in modern day technology
