Nintendo Is Officially Looking Into VR

Just last year, Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime was dismissive of the current wave of VR devices, stating that VR as it stood now was not something Nintendo was too interested in, because it was ‘not social enough.’ However, it seems as though the company has changed its stance, and is now considering VR pretty seriously.

According to games industry analyst Serkan Toto (via Develop Online), Nintendo confirmed that it was ‘looking into’ VR at their recent financial meeting. They mentioned VR alongside smartphone games as opportunities that they were exploring, which means that there is a very real chance that the company may be seriously considering charting a VR strategy of some sort.

Although this does imply that the NX is not VR (since it’s coming soon, and this makes it seem like they only just recently started considering VR), it also seems like they have decided that VR may be something to look into going forward- which sounds exciting. Nintendo did so well with the polygonal 3D paradigm all those years ago with the Nintendo 64 in 1996. What kinds of games could they make with VR?

Miss Nintendo using VR would actually be a really smart thing to do on their part. Just imagine all the kids that would want to use it for virtually any Mario game and just about every game on the Nintendo consoles.

I just hope that they actually take the time to make their VR system an amazing addition to the technology currently out, and don't merely make a system that conforms to what is already released. Nintendo always seems to be pushing the edge on gaming consoles, and hopefully they continue that trend here and bring VR into the common household.

Dont Dont think I will ever buy a VR mask or whatever they are. Far to expensive for my liking

you know people have said the exact same thing for every new bit of tech that comes out. flat screens, Full HD screens, personal computers, SSD's. Like everything else it will get cheaper.
