Cross-network play is finally happening on Xbox One

4.6
The director of ID@Xbox One, Chris Charla announced that cross-network play is finally coming to Xbox One.

Cross-network play means you can play between Xbox One and Windows 10 Xbox Live games, as well as you’ll be able to play with friends on other consoles and PC networks.

This feature will be up to the developers if they want this in their game. If Xbox One players only want to play with those on the same platform, then that option will also be available to them.

We will see this feature first with Rocket League, which we expect to see the feature later this Spring.

Lets hope this actually happens. Everyone seems to hate on each other because of what console they have but deep down everyone is really excited to be able to play together.

This will introduce a lot more players that have the chance to play with each other, which is truly a great step, and a huge step for other consoles to follow.

This is a great move by Microsoft. Very unique feature and glad it was finally done. I just hope it is done right,

Cross platform play between Xbox and PS will be the best thing that has happened to console. The console community needs to grow collectively and avoid being divided between different factions (Xbox vs PS). With this feature, games will have a much larger player base for a better multiplayer experience.

Console and PC cross-network play is good and bad. For any FPS game, PC players have a large advantage so it won't happen there. But for games like Rocket League, PC and Console are on a level playing field. Rocket League is played best on a controller, which is why PC users buy a controller to play it properly on their PC.

Well done Microsoft, let's hope Sony and the game developers play ball.

If I'm being honest this is good but personally I'm not liking the idea at the moment.

Not sure how I feel about this to be honest

This could very well give games longer life spans as long as just make the gaming community better in general. I hope game companies and Sony go along with this for more than just a few games. It would be cool for friends to exist on different consoles and for actual competition among the platforms. I mean, there really is no good reason for games that are made basically exactly the same to be divided due to what console you play on. I can see PC since there is the apparent issue with mouse and keyboard being more accurate, but the consoles should totally be able to play together.
