E3 2016: Microsoft announces the next Xbox, Project Scorpio

Microsoft has just confirmed the existence of an upgraded Xbox console.

Microsoft has announced Project Scorpio, the next Xbox console. During its E3 2016 briefing, head of Xbox Phil Spencer said he believes it will be the most powerful console ever.

Scorpio will boast an 8-core CPU, with a GPU capable of 6 teraflops. This graphics processor will be the most powerful in a console, according to the announcement.

Microsoft promises “true” 4K gaming and “high-fidelity virtual” reality with Scorpio, which will coexist alongside the 2013 Xbox One, as well the newly-announced S model. All games available on either console, as well as accessories, will be compatible with Scorpio.

It’s due for release holiday 2017.

Anyways, if the Scorpio has DRM, I'm all for it. I think it's time for Microsoft to take the leap and do what they wanted to do 4 years ago

I guess I'm the only one who thinks it's ridiculous to release a console so close together. Why is everyone getting the Xbox one S when an entirely new and better console is coming just next year? Maybe I'm missing something. This is entirely new from a One right? Like a new thing from the 360 -> One -> Scorpio?

lolohnoeszsz Quite interesting it seems it'll have roughly the same Tflops as a GTX 1070. I can see this console costing a lot though probably around $550-599. I mean the GTX 1070 by itself is anywhere from $450-600.

Honestly I think it's just best to upgrade to a PC. This console seems like it'll only last a few years just like the X1.
