E3 2016: Microsoft announces the next Xbox, Project Scorpio

Microsoft has just confirmed the existence of an upgraded Xbox console.

Microsoft has announced Project Scorpio, the next Xbox console. During its E3 2016 briefing, head of Xbox Phil Spencer said he believes it will be the most powerful console ever.

Scorpio will boast an 8-core CPU, with a GPU capable of 6 teraflops. This graphics processor will be the most powerful in a console, according to the announcement.

Microsoft promises “true” 4K gaming and “high-fidelity virtual” reality with Scorpio, which will coexist alongside the 2013 Xbox One, as well the newly-announced S model. All games available on either console, as well as accessories, will be compatible with Scorpio.

It’s due for release holiday 2017.

This may be a stupid question. So is the Scorpio project a whole new Xbox? Like its the next consol that will last for 5 years or so before another one comes out

Quite interesting it seems it'll have roughly the same Tflops as a GTX 1070. I can see this console costing a lot though probably around $550-599. I mean the GTX 1070 by itself is anywhere from $450-600.

Honestly I think it's just best to upgrade to a PC. This console seems like it'll only last a few years just like the X1.

I'm not a computer person, but it sounds really nice by what they are saying. It looks amazing. A shame that it releases late next year. Makes me wonder if games are eventually going to have lower settings. Like, original Xbox One may play the same games but lower settings. Are the newer games going to work on the original One?

So excited to use this on my 4K tv :), but in reality it looks good. I like how much smaller it is, no more paper weights.

Just wait for a hefty price tag that comes along with it. As much as I love the design of the XBs would rather wait a year later and get this!

Honestly can't wait for this to come out. Might actually get me to buy a console again. 10 years strong on my current 360.
