Microsoft has revealed new details about its Fall 2009 Xbox 360 Dashboard Update -- yes, the same update set to bring Twitter, Last.fm and Facebook support. New to the list of update features is a dedicated Xbox Live storefront for music games DLC and a specific area of Inside Xbox called "News and More." The Music Games Store will take a big step toward dealing with the clutter on Xbox ...read more

You've probably seen this by now, but this is the single greatest piece of video game print advertising I have ever seen, and I just had to share it with you. The ad can be found in the latest issue of Game Pro magazine, as well as other publications I'm sure. Seriously, if this doesn't make you want to get your hands on Assassin's Creed II, then you are dead inside. So here's the first ...read more

As it has done in the past, Microsoft is offering early access to its next Xbox 360 Dashboard update (which integrates Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm and Zune Marketplace) to those who sign up -- and are then selected -- to preview it. Major Nelson has just updated his blog with word that the signup process has begun for the program, mentioning that Microsoft is looking for "multiple thousands" ...read more

Though Microsoft has been a bit cagey with a solid release date for the upcoming Facebok/Twitter/Last.Fm update for Xbox Live, eagle-eyed UK readers have spotted the phrase "Service launches 17th November 2009" on the UK Xbox website (seen above). When we recently got to give the services a spin at Microsoft's First Annual Open House, the company wouldn't give us a set-in-stone release date, ...read more

It must be great to be a celebrity. Take rapper Lil' Wayne for example. We didn't even know Microsoft made an Xbox like that, and here celebrities are getting them as gifts. ... What's that? ... It's a modded Xbox? Oh come on, now ...read more

USA Today reports that Bungie's Master Chief-less, "glorified expansion pack" Halo 3: ODST has sold 2.5 million copies and brought in over $125 million since its release two weeks ago. Yesterday, our own Patrick Klepek argued in favor of Bungie's approach with ODST. In his piece, Patrick reasoned that should the game go on to be a financial success, which it clearly has, and it’s only ...read more

X-Play's Abbie Heppe is a lucky one. She's up at Valve Software right now getting her hands on Left 4 Dead 2's newly announced "Scavenge" mode! While we sit patiently in Los Angeles for the game's November 17, 2009 release, she was kind enough to send back her impressions of the mode. "For the final rollout of Left 4 Dead 2 goodness before launch, Valve announced the new Scavenge mode. ...read more

"Xbox comes from a gaming heritage, and is expanding into a broader entertainment brand," Microsoft's Robbie Bach told us earlier today at its first Open House event in New York. Powering Xbox's expansion into "broader entertainment" is the upcoming Dashboard update, scheduled for beta release later this month. Four services included in the update will expand the 360's social networking and ...read more

As our more astute readers likely gathered from this very post's headline, another week has gone, so it's about time we checked in with Major Nelson to see what made his list of the most-played games on Xbox Live. Unsurprisingly, Bungie's dynamic duo of Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST managed to do well, taking the first and third spots, respectively -- Call of Duty 4 was in the second slot, while ...read more
