The Dark Sword is a magic melee weapon. It costs 5 Nightmare Fuel and 1 Living Log to craft. It drains sanity by 20/min while equipped and has 100 uses.

The Dark Sword does 68 damage per hit for most characters. It is the strongest melee weapon in the game in terms of reliable, player-dealt damage. It will deal the same amount of damage to all mobs in the game (i.e. it works like any other melee weapon), not just against Shadow Creatures.


The Dark Sword was added in the Insanity! update. Until the A Little Rain Must Fall update, the cost of crafting was 1 Twig. The Dark Sword may have only been a stick changed by the character's imagination, similar to Night Armour.
The Dark Sword is one of Maxwell's starting items.
Maxwell's quote "Snicker-Snack!" is a reference to the Vorpal Blade in Lewis Carroll's nonsense poem Jabberwocky.
