Introduction

So a lot of people now days have a wireless connection for their consoles. This is a very simple guide on how to port forward on your Xbox One. Port forwarding basically guarantees connection to whatever you are trying to connect to. For example, you could set up your router to forward port 12345 to Computer A on the network. So when Computer B connects over the internet to your router on port 12345, it will be automatically connect to Computer A. Basically the same thing, but we're going to be talking about the Xbox One.

Step 1: Login to your router homepage

Every brand of router will have a homepage, whether it is Netgear, Linksys, Cisco, etc. Your login and password is usually located on the back of the router, usually along with other things such as a serial number, and mac address. You might see the url to enter on the web for the homepage as well. If you don't, a simple google search will give you the url. An authentication popup will come up to enter your username and password. Default username/password is admin/password. Here's what a usual Netgear router page looks like.

Step 2: Look for Port forward and UPnP

Once you're on the Homepage, you want to look for port forwarding and UPnP. If you find UPnP, make sure you turn it on. Most new routers usually have this, and basically automatically port forwards the devices for you and is more secure at times. Here is where it is located on Netgear genie for my personal router.

Go ahead and and turn UPnP on if you have it, and go ahead on to Port forwarding if you don't. Personally, I didn't have UPnP to work on my router. Don't know what happened, but might have something to do on my end. Port forwarding made a difference in the end though.

Step 3: Port Forwarding the Xbox One/ Xbox Network Ports

Make sure you go on your Xbox in the network settings and check for this. You just have to remember the last number.

Now all you do is fill out this information for each port.
Click the add custom service button, or something similar to that. Make sure you pick a different name for each port.

Xbox Live requires the following ports to be open:

Port 88 (UDP)
Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
Port 80 (TCP)
Port 500 (UDP)
Port 3544 (UDP)
Port 4500 (UDP)

You will find the options whether the port is UDP, TCP or UDP/TCP. Then you enter the internal and external ports. Both external and internal port numbers are the same.

This is what mine currently looks like.

Your Done!
Once you have done that, you might want to reset your console and router to be sure everything is working properly. You should be done now, and notice a difference in your connection if it was bad before. Upgrading internet packages is also a solution if your internet provider is bad. Sucks we all can't have fiber optic living in the 21st century.
