This can also be done in the tutorial. Once you have completed enough of the tutorial, make your way upstairs and head to the castle. Bear right and go down some stairs and ahead of you there will be a room with a nether portal in. Go through the portal and make your way to the nether fortress where there is a blaze spawner. Simply kill a blaze, pick up the rod and your achievement will be earned.
