Step 1: Choosing the right font
When it comes to this style in particular I would recommend using a solid blocky font. The straight edge lines want work on curved or brush fonts. For this tutorial I'll be using [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Step 2: Creating your workspace
You want to make a new project by going to 'file' and selecting 'new', choose the dimensions of the your project and click 'ok'. Make sure your choosing large dimensions so that you have space to work with.

Step 3: Base colour
The base colour is going to be the colour that's predominately shown, for this tutorial I'll be using white. Tip - Try not to use straight colours, for example: if I was going to be using a blue I wouldn't select the bluest blue, I would make sure it's an offset blue.

Step 4: Outline 1
For the sake of this tutorial I'm going to call this part outline 1. Make a new layer below your text layer, whilst you have your new layer selected hover over the new layer holding down 'command' (Control for PC) this will make a selection around your text.




Once the layer has been selected navigate to 'select' which is located at the top of the screen, click on it, go down to 'modify' and expand by 25px. This will create a 25px outline of the text.



Fill this selection in with a colour by navigating to the marquee tool [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and right clicking inside the selection, from here choose the 'fill' option and select a colour. For this tutorial I'll be using a dark grey for outline 1. Deselect the the outline by right clicking inside the outline and click 'deselect'.

Step 5: Pen tooling straight edges
Since the outlines are curved you are going to want to pen tool them to make them straight. Make sure that your pen tool lines are as straight as possible.



Fill the selected pen tool area in with your outline 1 colour. This is achieved by right clicking with the pen tool selected in the middle of the outline and selecting 'fill'.



Repeat on each corner and edge until all are straight.

Step 6: Outline 2
Outline 2 is basically done the same way outline 1 was, but this time your going to be using different colours and px widths. Make a new layer below your outline 1 layer, whilst you have your new layer selected hover over the new layer holding down 'command' (Control for PC) this will make a selection around your text.



Once the layer has been selected navigate to 'select' which is located at the top of the screen, click on it, go down to 'modify' and this time expand by 10px. This will create a 10px outline of the text.



Fill this selection in with a colour by navigating to the marquee tool [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and right clicking inside the selection, from here choose the 'fill' option and select a colour. For this tutorial I'll be using a dark grey for outline 1. Deselect the the outline by right clicking inside the outline and click 'deselect'. For outline 2 I'll be using green.



Now again, straighten up every corner and edge with the pen tool. Refer to step 5 for more detail.




You have now completed the outlines, you can merge the outline layers together.

Step 7: Finishing touches
Adding a gloss effect to your final product is very easy and the result is awesome. Create a new layer above everything and navigate to the pen tool, select the portion of the text where you want the gloss.



Fill the selected pen tool with a pure white.


Now create a clipping mask over your your text layer. To create a clipping mask: Hold down option (Alt for PC), position the pointer over the line dividing two layers in the Layers panel (the pointer changes to two overlapping circles), and then click.

Creating a clipping mask will tell the pen tooled layer to cover the text.



Lower the opacity of this layer to 75%
